Two men recently found a four-kilogram Javan pangolin on the street of District 12, Ho Chi Minh City, and have handed it over to authorities.
The Javan pangolin – a rare species of anteater – was handed over to the municipal forest protection department on Wednesday for specialized care before it is returned to nature.
Rangers identified the pangolin, which weighed about four kilograms, as a Java pangolin, which is listed as a rare and endangered forest animal.
Nguyen Van Ha, 32, and his colleague Bui Quang Khai discovered the animal in a mesh bag next to a trash can during a morning walk on C3 Street in District 12 on Tuesday.

Ha initially thought the animal was a fish and left the bag where it was, but later decided to return to the bag with Khai and bring it to their company office.
He then realized that the animal was a pangolin and contacted authorities to hand it over.
“I handed over the pangolin in the hope that it would be released back into the wild,” Ha said.
