Police confirmed on Saturday they had detained seven more people involved in a fatal shooting on Phu Quoc Island off Kien Giang Province in southern Vietnam, raising the number of arrested suspects to 36.
A total of 36 suspects involved in the case were apprehended on Friday and Saturday, Diep Van The, deputy director of the Kien Giang Department of Public Security, said on Saturday afternoon.
Police had coordinated with border guard officers to patrol all streets, ports, and ferry stations on Phu Quoc Island to search for the suspects, The added.
The shooting took place in Cua Duong Commune at around 11:30 am on Thursday, according to preliminary information.
The incident arose from a land dispute between two groups led by V.V.L. and K.V.D..
L. and 50 other people traveled in different vans and buses, each having from seven to 16 seats, to a venue owned by K.V.D. that day to address their dispute.
Some people in L.’s group used guns to chase and shoot D. and several other individuals.
Consequently, two people were killed by head and chest shootings, while four others were injured.
Aside from arresting the suspects, police officers have searched the houses of relevant individuals and confiscated two guns, 19 bullets, one fake seal, and a 16-seater automobile.
