Long lines at the pump plagued motorcyclists looking to fill up their tanks in Hanoi at midnight on Thursday.

HFC Tam Da, a gas station in Tay Ho District, Hanoi, was still bustling at 11:00 pm on Thursday as people lined up behind the two working pumps at the venue.

PVOIL Hang Quoc Viet and Ngia Do petrol stations, both in Cau Giay District, experienced a similar rush at around 11:50 pm the same day.

In Quoc Oai District, a crowd was still circling the pumps at the Petrolimex Petrol Station No. 17 well into the night, with many people carrying extra plastic containers to fill up with petrol for future use.

“I went to several filling stations earlier today, but there were too many people,” said Nguyen Van Tu, 27.

“I thought that it would be less crowded at night, but I was wrong.”

Tu said he had waited for 20 minutes but was still unable to buy gasoline, adding that the situation has been going on for about a month and that authorities need to come up with a solution.

Despite an increase in gasoline prices on November 1, many filling stations in Hanoi are still selling only in small quantities, while others are reporting that they are out of stock.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has requested that the Ministry of Industry and Trade find a solution to the local gasoline shortage.

The premier required that a remedy be made to ensure the supply of petrol and oil for the domestic market, including adjusting petrol and oil prices in accordance with the law, strengthening the inspection and supervision of the market, and strictly handling violations.
