Phuong Trang Bus JSC has recently submitted a proposal to the Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City on opening 17 new bus routes connecting Tan Son Nhat International Airport with urban areas, bus stations, university campuses, and seven districts in the city to meet travel needs.
The transport firm put forward the plan as its shuttle bus service 109, which carries passengers between the airport and a bus station in downtown District 1, proves effective after more than one month of operation.
The 17 suggested bus routes will include seven connecting the airport to Mien Tay Bus Station in Binh Tan District, Mien Dong Bus Station in Binh Thanh District, New Mien Dong Bus Station in Thu Duc City, the Phu My Hung New Urban Area in District 7, the Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City campus in Thu Duc City, the Sala urban area in Thu Duc City, and Thao Dien Ward in Thu Duc City.
The remainder will benefit residents of Districts 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 12, Binh Chanh District, and those residing near university campuses in District 7.
Each of the new routes will use ten to fifteen 16- to 45-seater buses and charge VND40,000-70,000 (US$1.6-2.8) per passenger based on their traveling distance.
Currently, there are three bus routes linking Tan Son Nhat International Airport with other parts of Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, namely route 152 to the Trung Son residential area in Binh Chanh District, route 109 to the Saigon Bus Station in District 1, and route 72-1 to Vung Tau City.
Phuong Trang put route 109 into operation in mid-September.
