A truck hit a 16-seat passenger car which stopped on a section of the Trung Luong-My Thuan Expressway in Cai Lay District, Tien Giang Province, southern Vietnam, at its back on Wednesday, killing one passenger and injuring two others.

Officers of the Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security said they were investigating the cause of the accident.

Preliminary information showed that at 2:00 am, the 16-seat passenger car whose driver’s identity remained unknown stopped on the Trung Luong-My Thuan Expressway section due to a tire problem.

While the problem was being solved, the truck running in the same direction with the passenger car suddenly crashed it at the back, seriously damaging the two vehicles.

After the accident, three injured passengers were rushed to a nearby hospital but one of them died at the hospital.

The accident occurred when a small volume of vehicles were traveling on the expressway, so it caused no congestion.

Upon receiving reports of the accident, the Traffic Police Department coordinated with the expressway operator to investigate the cause of the accident and regulate the traffic flow at the scene.
