Advertisements for many services such as YouTube subscription and ride-hailing have recently defaced public walls along several streets in Da Nang, central Vietnam.
Some routes near the Han River Bridge and the Dragon Bridge, which often attract a large number of tourists, are also among the affected structures.
The vandalism recurred just shortly after a campaign to clean the unsightly advertisements and paintings in the same area at the end of last year, according to Le Thanh Nam, a local vendor.

Pham Thanh Tra, chief inspector of the Da Nang Department of Information and Communications, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that local authorities have applied measures to handle the issue, including imposing administrative fines on people who directly stick or write advertisements on the walls and the owners of phone numbers on the ads.

The municipal People’s Committee has also asked schools and universities to warn students, who often take part-time jobs after school, against participating in posting flyers and advertisements illegally.

In 2022, a person poured strong glue into locks of dozens of houses and stuck there a small piece of advertisement to ask people to subscribe to a YouTube channel.
This person was then summoned by police officers.
