Hanoi plans to plant an additional 400,000 new trees across the capital city by 2025, according to a plan signed by vice chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Duong Duc Tuan.
The city plans to plant 500,000 trees in total during the 2021-25 period. More than 52,000 and 49,000 trees were planted in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
Over 133,000 trees are expected to be planted this year, 145,000 trees next year, and some 118,000 trees in 2025.
Hanoi will also replace part of the existing milk flower trees with other trees to reduce the smell of milk flowers.
The municipal People’s Committee required the trees to be synchronous with traffic and urban infrastructure systems and underground facilities.
Investors of traffic infrastructure and urban development projects must follow tree standards in the approved plans and tree systems should be developed concurrently with other items of projects.
The land for trees must not be converted for other purposes.
Regarding the upgrade of the existing tree systems, the Hanoi People’s Committee required drawing up a plan to replace worm-eaten, bent, leaning, ugly and stunted trees and those that are not in line with urban requirements.
In addition, those in charge of the job were asked to consult with the local authorities, experts, scientists, institutes, schools, and organizations with a wide knowledge of trees during the tree planting and replacing process.
They should also plant new trees and replace problematic trees in a transparent manner to reach public consistency.
