Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Transport has enforced a ban on car parking along several streets in Phu Nhuan District following Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper’s reports on illegal parking that affected local people’s lives.
The ban is slated to take effect from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm every day, starting April 22.
The prohibition will be applicable to the entirety of Hoa Sua Street and Alley 71 down Nguyen Cong Hoan Street.
On Hoa Phuong and Nhieu Tu Streets, and Alley 53 down Nhieu Tu Street, cars will be barred from parking in the right lane from Hoa Cau to Phan Xich Long Streets, from Tran Ke Xuong to Hoa Su Streets, and from Nhieu Tu to Hoa Cau Streets, respectively.
The action came after Tuoi Tre reported on illegal parking that has been rampant in the area, disturbing locals’ daily activities.
Nguyen Thi Ngoc Phuong, a local resident, said that many drivers often parked cars and large vehicles at houses’ entrances for several hours, obstructing traffic in the neighborhood.
Some drivers even argued with locals over the issue, according to Phuong.
