Police from Da Lat City in Vietnam's Lam Dong Province arrested a 33-year-old man on Sunday for brutally beating his lover’s three-month-old baby, resulting in severe injuries to the infant.
Tran Hoai Thuong, residing in Ward 2, Da Lat City, was apprehended for hitting N.N.T.C., born on February 25, 2023, Colonel Tran Vinh Phu, head of the Da Lat police department, said on Sunday.
The child was taken to the Lam Dong General Hospital while suffering intracranial lesions, forearm, femur and shin fractures, acute kidney injury, and liver failure.
Thuong declared to police officers that he and Nguyen Phuc Hong A., the mother of the baby, are in a relationship. He regularly stays at A.’s rented room.
Thuong got angry whenever C. cried, so he violently beat and slapped C.’s face.
On April 14 and 15, Thuong boxed the child’s ears.
Last Friday, he put a pacifier on the baby’s mouth and stuck adhesive tape on the child’s mouth to prevent her from crying.

When the baby showed signs of shortness of breath, Thuong removed the adhesive tape but later threw a teddy bear at the baby many times.
At 5:00 pm on Saturday, C. did not drink milk, so Thuong slapped the baby’s head and face, causing the infant to have trouble in breathing and to flow milk out.
The man later shook the baby violently before taking her to the Lam Dong General Hospital.
When Thuong tortured C., the baby’s mother was also present at the rented room.
Investigators found that at about 1:00 pm on Saturday, Thuong used meth before hitting the baby.
He was sentenced to two years behind bars in 2016 for illegally possessing narcotics.
The abuse case has made headlines and sparked public concerns in Da Lat.
Colonel Phu said local police were completing procedures to initiate legal proceedings against Thuong.
A., the mother, is also implicated in the case but the baby is under treatment, so she was let out to take care of the infant.
