-- Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on Monday held talks with Chairman of the United Russia Party (URP) and Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev, who is on a working visit to Vietnam from Sunday to Tuesday under a cooperation agreement between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the URP. Medvedev also met with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and State President Vo Van Thuong on the same day.

-- Dang Quoc Khanh, secretary of the Party Committee of the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang, was named Minister of Environment and Natural Resources in the 2021-26 tenure at the fifth sitting of the National Assembly in Hanoi on Monday.

Society

-- A student and the father of another student drowned while visiting an alluvial ground between the Red and Tra Rivers in Nam Dinh Province, northern Vietnam. The father was swept away while trying to save the student after rescuing two others.

-- The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has proposed banning long-haul buses from entering the inner-city area around the clock instead of between 6:00 am and 10:00 pm every day.

-- The People’s Committee of Mong Cai City in Quang Ninh Province, northern Vietnam on Monday cut off power in the entire city for three hours to complete the installation of a 110kV power transmission line from China. Mong Cai will start using electricity bought from China from Wednesday.

Business

-- Vietnamese airline Bamboo Airways’ board of directors on Monday appointed Nguyen Minh Hai as its general director from Wednesday after approving Nguyen Manh Quan's resignation. Hai has 25 years of experience in the aviation sector.

Education

-- A project of two Vietnamese students won a third prize at the 2023 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair Grand Awards. The competition this year, held in the U.S., attracted 1,302 projects of 1,600 students from 61 countries and territories.

Lifestyle

-- Vietnam’s com tam (broken rice) and banh chung (square sticky rice cake) rank third and 97th, respectively, among the 100 best rated rice dishes in the world, according to a list released by TasteAtla, which describes itself as a world atlas of traditional dishes, local ingredients, and authentic restaurants.
