The administration of north-central Nghe An Province has established an interdisciplinary team to inspect a stone powder manufacturer in Nghi Loc District where three deaths and five hospitalizations of workers were allegedly linked to pneumoconiosis.
The stone power business subject to the inspection is Chau Tien Limited Company, located in the Nam Cam Industrial Park in Nghi Loc District, a representative of the Dong Nam Economic Zone management board, which operates the industrial park, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Friday evening.
According to a report of the Nghi Loc administration, the three deceased all started working at this company from 2017 to 2022.
Meanwhile, the five hospitalized workers had to undergo lung lavage. They suffered shortness of breath and thereby required oxygen therapy, with worsening health conditions.
Nghe An Lung Hospital confirmed that it was providing medical treatment for one of the five affected workers.
The patient, named H.V.S., 47, residing in Nghi Loc, is in critical condition and on a ventilator.
Given the deaths and hospitalizations, the inspection team, headed by Nguyen Van Hai, deputy head of the economic zone management authority, will examine the company’s compliance with prevailing regulations on occupational diseases and working environment, monitor its working environment and check its deployment of social insurance and health insurance policies for its employees.
The inspection is scheduled to last 45 days.
