Environmental police in Ha Nam Province, northern Vietnam announced on Wednesday evening that they had fined a textile recycling company over VND2.6 billion (US$110,302) for releasing untreated wastewater into a local river.
During an inspection, the police force discovered that Vu Bang Textile and Garment Co. Ltd., located in the industrial handicraft cluster in Hoa Hau Commune, Ly Nhan District, had secretly installed and connected plastic pipes with a diameter of 63 millimeters over a distance of approximately 1.4 kilometers.
These pipes were buried in drainage ditches, ran through crop cultivation areas, passed the cemetery of Hoa Hau Commune, and ended at the Chau Giang River, allowing the company to discharge untreated wastewater into the water.
During the course of their investigation, the police determined that Vu Bang Textile and Garment Co. Ltd. had illegally discharged wastewater that exceeded the prescribed limits for waste and had failed to obtain the required environmental safety papers.
Furthermore, the company’s illicit installation of wastewater discharge equipment and pipes violated construction guidelines.
Therefore, the environmental police received a mandate from the People’s Committee of Ha Nam Province to slap administrative penalties in the realm of environmental protection, totaling over VND2.6 billion, against the company.
Additionally, the firm is compelled to undertake corrective actions as required.
