A 30-40-year-old pine forest in Bao Lam District, Lam Dong Province is coping with widespread poisoning, the local forest protection department announced on Wednesday.

Rangers in the province, located in Vietnam's Central Highlands region, have so far discovered two areas of the forest that have been poisoned.

In the first section, 42 three-needle pine trees have yellowed and there are signs that someone has sawed into the bases of the trees.

There are also signs that someone has purposely drilled holes that are two centimeters wide and 10 centimeters deep in order to pour herbicide into the trees.

The area is 2,600 square meters and is capable of producing 38,290 cubic meters of forest products.

In the second section, 51 pine trees spreading across 3,000 square meters of forest were poisoned with herbicide.

According to a forest ranger, despite intensifying inspections, detecting tree poisoning is highly challenging.

Authorities are currently taking steps to heal the affected pine trees in an attempt to save them.

Despite their efforts, rangers fear they may not be able to help the trees.

The Lam Dong Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has issued a written request to the public security bureau of Bao Lam District urging them to investigate criminal groups implicated in illegal deforestation and tree poisoning with the aim of seizing forest land and conduct unauthorized forest land transfers.
