Police in Ho Chi Minh City have arrested a 50-year-old South Korean businessman who escaped capture in his country, confirmed a police official on Friday.
The arrest came after a recent police raid to check foreigners who are residing in District 7.
Police officers discovered the South Korean man at an Era Town apartment, who did not register his temporary residence and failed to provide identity documents at the time of the check.
He was then taken to a nearby police station where he was identified as Kim Kyung Sic of South Korean citizenship.
Notably, police discovered that the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office in South Korea issued a warrant notice for him on November 1, 2019 over alleged embezzlement of public funds.
Instead of using capital contributed by shareholders to run his own business, Kim was found to have appropriated the funding for personal expenses and holed up in various places.
Police in District 7 on Wednesday conducted essential procedures and handed the South Korean fugitive to the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security for further steps.
