An eight-member family in Quang Binh Province, central Vietnam were urgently evacuated to a safer place as a hill adjacent to their house eroded following torrential rains over the past two days, a local official confirmed on Friday.
The family of Duong Van Ly, residing in Dong Hoa Commune, Tuyen Hoa District, were evacuated to their relative’s house in the neighborhood, according to Nguyen Tien Nam, chairman of the Dong Hoa administration.
The hill next to his house began eroding on Friday morning, causing a large amount of rocks and soil to fall into the yard and the back of the house, with no injuries or casualties reported.
Being notified of the incident, authorities came to the scene and ordered the emergency evacuation of the family, since it was raining and further landslides could happen.
As there are some other households living near this hill, authorities asked them to keep a close watch on weather conditions to timely relocate to other areas.
Three years ago, a severe landslide hit Thuan Hoa and Thach Hoa Communes in the district, prompting authorities to quickly build a resettlement area to house people affected by the landslide.
