Northern Vietnam is expected to experience cool temperatures from Thursday evening, while the country’s central region could see heavy rains through Sunday, due to the impact of a cold front, according to the national weather center.
The cold front was on its way to the northern region on Tuesday and will likely sweep through the northeastern part of the region on Thursday afternoon before hitting some central Vietnamese localities, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
As a result, temperatures in north and north-central Vietnam are forecast to drop sharply to 16-19 degrees Celsius while those in northern mountainous areas could stay between 12 and 15 degrees Celsius from Thursday night.
Moderate to heavy downpours are expected in the central provinces from Nghe An to Binh Dinh from Thursday night to Sunday.
Also, strong winds, high waves of 2-6 meters, and rough seas may hit the Gulf of Tonkin and the northern part of the East Vietnam Sea from Thursday night.
Thunderstorms accompanied by whirlwinds, lightning, hail, and gusts could disrupt farming activities as well as topple trees and take a toll on houses and traffic infrastructure facilities.
Heavy rainfall could also cause flooding in low-lying areas, while low mercury may negatively affect plants and livestock, the national weather center said, adding that owners and captains of fishing vessels should also stay prepared for powerful winds and high waves at sea.
