Dang Ngoc Phuong Trinh, a Vietnamese girl who set a new record at the 2023 World Memory Championship in India, revealed that her daily practice played a crucial role in achieving this remarkable feat.
Trinh told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that she watched an international memory program on television in 2019 for the first time and greatly admired foreign memory champions.
"Fascinated by memory champions, I was drawn to their skills, especially since I encountered challenges with memory during my youth," she recalled.
"Struggling to retain information and grapple with studying, I often pondered the secret behind their prodigious memory and harbored a desire to emulate their abilities."
Trinh discovered the solution within the pages of books, recognizing that a proficient memory could be cultivated through consistent practice.
Driven by admiration for memory champions and a desire to imitate their achievements, she embarked on a journey to enhance her memory skills.
This quest began during her second year as a student at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education in 2019, with the goal of becoming a competitor in image memory competitions.
After an extended period of dedicated practice and learning from memory experts, Trinh came to the realization that consistent and regular practice is crucial for success.
Reflecting on her past, she acknowledged instances when she had skipped practice on some days in previous years.

However, she later tried to practice every day.
The regular practice is like a lever which helps her brain adapt to the memory improvement process.
“Regular practice and patience helped me achieve results that I had never thought of earlier,” Trinh said.
Facing challenges with memory in the past, Trinh credits her success at the World Memory Championship not to innate talent, but to consistent practice and dedication to memory techniques.
Anyone knowing memory methods and practicing them regularly can achieve success in improving their memory, Trinh noted.
At the World Memory Championship 2023, Trinh, born in 2000, won a gold medal for remembering 618 images in five minutes, well above the previous record of 547 images.
The championship drew 779 participants from various countries and territories, including Germany, Denmark, India, and Japan.
