The Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism in Binh Thuan Province is seeking approval from local authorities to organize a national massage festival, a pioneering initiative in Vietnam; however, the administration is hesitant due to concerns about potential negative public reactions to such an event.

The People’s Committee of Binh Thuan Province in south central Vietnam has recently given written feedback to the said department on the latter’s proposal to organize a three-day event named ‘Vietnam Massage Festival - Binh Thuan 2024.’

In the document, deputy chairman of the provincial administration Nguyen Minh asked the department to look into relevant legal regulations and review the nature, purpose, and scale of the expected event in order to determine whether it should be called as ‘festival.’

the department is tasked with anticipating and assessing potential reactions from both mass media and public opinion regarding the proposed national-scale event, marking a precedent in Vietnam.

According to Sai Gon Giai Phong (Liberated Saigon) newspaper, the outcomes of fulfilling these requirements are required to be reported to provincial authorities before December 25 for further consideration, as stated in the document.

Earlier on November 21, the department submitted to the administration a proposal for hosting the festival after consulting other relevant departments and agencies.

As per the department’s plan, the massage event is slated to occur over three days, from March 22 to March 24, at various selected hotels and beaches.

The event is expected to involve over 2,500 massage technicians from different parts of the country.

The cost of the fest will be covered by Ho Chi Minh City-based Vietnam Spa Development and Training Joint Stock Company, the department said.

The objective of the event is to establish a professional and beneficial platform, fostering the growth of the Vietnamese massage industry.

It aims to provide opportunities for massage technicians to engage in exchange, learning, sharing experience, and enhancing their skills, as stated by the department.

The agency further believes that hosting such a festival will contribute to enhancing the overall well-being of the community, offering stress relief through professional massage therapies.

It is anticipated that the event will attract more tourists to the province, making it an even more appealing destination in Vietnam.
