A local man has handed over a two-meter long, eight-kilogram python to forest protection officers in Ho Chi Minh City.
The municipal Forest Protection Department reported on Wednesday that they received a python from Pham Trong Vinh.
Vinh later informed Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that he and two others had captured the python in the yard of a workshop located in the outlying district of Binh Chanh in the city.
He handed the animal over to forest protection officers in the hope that it would be released back into the wild.
The forest protection authority confirmed that the reptile is a Burmese python, scientifically known Python bivittatus, which is on the list of rare and endangered species.
Vinh revealed that he has handed a total number of three pythons found in the workshop yard and on the street over to the department.
