Police in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City announced on Thursday that they had busted a group of middle-aged and senior citizens for pickpocketing bus passengers.
The detainees include Nguyen Thi Man, 64, Le Ngoc Huong, 65, Phu Van Tuan, 55, Nguyen Tan Dung, 44, Huynh Minh Thong, 42, and Vu Duc Sau, 50.
The gang members hail from Thu Duc City under Ho Chi Minh City, southern Soc Trang Province, Hanoi, and north-central Thanh Hoa Province.
District 1 police have filed charges against each of the individuals involved.
Members of the racket confessed to police that they were in dire need of money, so they decided to steal from passengers on buses in District 1.
Man, Huong, and Tuan pickpocketed passengers on the buses while Dung, Minh, and Sau followed the vehicles on motorbikes and acted as getaway drivers.

Minh was responsible for selling the stolen valuables and dividing the money between the group.
Police investigation showed that the mob had committed thefts on January 5, 6, and 15.
On January 15 alone, they stole from passengers on four city buses.
Police are expanding their probe into the ring and tracking down additional suspects.
They are also calling on victims to visit the District 1 police station at 73 Yersin Street in Cau Ong Lanh Ward in order to assist in the investigation.
