Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City is slated to officially implement the Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM) model to enhance on-time take-off and landing rates for flights starting Thursday.
The airport announced the A-CDM launch on Tuesday, following approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.
The announcement marks the culmination of an extensive three-year testing period and collaborative efforts between Tan Son Nhat and key stakeholders, positioning it as an A-CDM airport regionally and globally.
Tan Son Nhat boasts Vietnam’s highest flight frequency, as it handles nearly 260,000 flights annually.
Last year, passenger throughput at the airport reached 42 million, surpassing its designed capacity by 1.5 times.
The A-CDM model has been trialed on a total of 22,441 daily flights during low, peak, and all-day periods at the airport on two phases since December 2020, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
It enables smooth collaboration and information sharing among airport operators, addressing congestion, enhancing operational planning efficiency, optimizing airport resource utilization, improving forecasting capabilities, and ultimately enhancing flight punctuality.
Throughout the trial of the model, Tan Son Nhat witnessed notable operational efficiencies, such as an increased on-time flight rate, reduced instances of aircraft waiting on taxiways, and enhanced luggage and cargo handling attributed to improved flight planning.
In Europe, 32 airports have successfully deployed A-CDM, with eight in the testing phase.
Furthermore, close to 20 airports in Asia have also succeeded in adopting this transformative model.
