A large tree tragically fell and caused the demise of a 17-year-old girl who was selling flowers for Valentine's Day on a street in Dak Lak Province in the Central Highlands on Tuesday, a local official reported the same day.
The decades-old tree on Phan Chu Trinh Street in Thang Loi Ward, Buon Ma Thuot City, Dak Lak Province suddenly fell on the girl at about 9:15 am.
Local residents immediately rushed her to the nearby Thien Hanh General Hospital.
A hospital representative affirmed that it received the girl, named N.T.H.T., at 9:45 am the same day.
She was unconscious and suffered multiple injuries on her body, including broken femur, fractured heel bones, multiple broken ribs, spinal damage, and a brain injury.
She was later transferred to the Central Highlands Regional General Hospital, also in Dak Lak Province.
However, she passed away after two hours despite intensive care.

A leader of the administration in Thang Loi Ward said the local authorities were tidying the scene of the incident and investigating the cause.
There were strong winds when the tree collapsed.
“Other flower vendors on Phan Chu Trinh Street have moved to safer places,” the ward leader added.
One month earlier, a century-old banian tree on Phan Chau Trinh Street in Buon Ma Thuot City fell, injuring a woman and damaging some houses and motorbikes.
