-- The People’s Committee of Ca Mau Province in southern Vietnam has requested a grant of over VND63 billion (US$2.5 million) from the central budget to implement a conservation project aimed at addressing the severe drought, which has made local forests vulnerable to fires.

-- Thuy Su Lake in Tay Ho District, Hanoi was drained to cultivate lotus, resulting in a significant number of fish deaths in the lake, as explained by the district chairman on Tuesday. The official also dismissed any other reasons, such as environmental pollution.

-- Authorities in Hoi An City, Quang Nam Province, central Vietnam on Tuesday took action against a local tourism facility for felling nipa palm trees in the Cam Thanh nipa palm forest, a renowned local attraction, to construct facilities.

-- Hoi An City is conducting a pilot program where 450 households along Nguyen Tri Phuong Street purchase plastic bags based on volume to store domestic waste. As usage increases, so does the size of the garbage bag, resulting in higher fees.

-- The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development plans to invest $375 million in technical infrastructure to support low-emission rice production across 12 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta from 2026 to 2031, as outlined in a master plan approved at the end of last year.

-- Bac Giang Obstetrics and Pediatric Hospital in Bac Giang Province, northern Vietnam on Tuesday reported that it is treating an eight-year-old child hospitalized with severe burns to the face, chest, and hands resulting from a laptop explosion during use.

Business

-- Vietnam’s lobster exports to the Chinese market surged to $30 million in January-February, marking a significant increase from the $1.6 million reported during the same period in 2023, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers.

-- The number of Vietnamese professionals on employment-focused social media platform LinkedIn has surpassed five million, according to business consulting company Anphabe, LinkedIn’s partner in Vietnam.

Education

-- Students of the American International School Vietnam in Nha Be District, Ho Chi Minh City, returned to school on Tuesday after a one-day dismissal due to most teachers not showing up amid unpaid salaries. However, many students arrived at school only to find that not all classes could resume, prompting them to go home early.
