The average spending by foreign visitors in Vietnam last quarter increased 13 percent over the previous quarter, indicating that foreign guests were willing to hike their spend on tourism activities, according to a report by Klook, a travel and experience platform.
Vietnam welcomed more than 4.6 million international tourist arrivals in the first three months of the year, a year-on-year rise of 70 percent and surpassing the pre-pandemic figures for the same period.
The five largest source markets for Vietnamese tourism in the first quarter were South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the Philippines.
However, emerging markets reported the most impressive growth, with Indonesia taking the lead.
The number of Indonesian travelers to Vietnam skyrocketed eight times compared to the same period last year, according to Klook’s report.
A report by the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism showed that other ASEAN markets also posted a positive growth rate, including Malaysia with 24.6 percent, Singapore with 8.6 percent, Cambodia with 19.1 percent, and the Philippines with 52.6 percent.
According to local travel companies, Indonesia is considered to be the Southeast Asian market with the highest potential as it has the fourth-largest population in the world.
Da Nang in the central region, Ha Long City in northern Quang Ninh Province, Phu Quoc Island off southern Kien Giang Province, and Hanoi are the most favored destinations in Vietnam for foreign tourists on the Klook platform.
Klook Vietnam CEO Nguyen Huy Hoang said international tourists were attracted to the country thanks to its interesting destinations, including parks and entertainment complexes.
Vietnamese tourism hubs, such as Da Nang and Nha Trang in south-central Khanh Hoa Province, recently launched programs to introduce lodging facilities and restaurants serving Halal meals; promote direct air routes; offer prayer rooms; and increase services for Muslim tourists.
At a seminar on tourism model transformation in Ho Chi Minh City last Thursday, Phuoc Dang, CEO of market research firm The Outbox Company, said the Asian tourism market is experiencing a period of significant growth.
Asia-Pacific travelers have become favored customers in Vietnam thanks to their high spending.
In the past, many people believed that Asian tourists did not spend much during their tours.
However, Asia has become the largest source market in the world in terms of spending, Phuoc informed, citing statistics from United Nations Tourism.
The trend was forecast to continue in the future thanks to the growth of the emerging middle class on the continent, Phuoc added.
