Over 5.5 million login credentials from websites on Vietnam’s ‘.vn’ domain were compromised in 2023, ranking fifth globally in stolen login data.

On Wednesday, cybersecurity firm Kaspersky revealed that the popular ‘.com’ domain topped the list with nearly 326 million compromised accounts.

Following in order, Brazil’s ‘.br’ domain had 29 million, India’s ‘.in’ had eight million, and Colombia’s ‘.co’ had nearly six million compromised accounts.

Globally, malware pilfered login information from nearly 10 million devices in 2023, averaging 50.9 credentials per device.

This data encompasses login accounts for social networks, online banking, e-wallets, internal systems, and business emails.

Cybercriminals frequently exploit stolen data for malicious activities, such as cyberattacks or underground trading.

Despite a nine-percent decrease in memo sets and malware infections in 2023 compared to 2022, the incidence of credential hijacking persisted.

Kaspersky anticipates a potential leak of the stolen information to the dark web in 2024, suggesting that actual infections could surpass 10 million.

Based on the firm’s assessment, approximately 16 million infections occurred in 2023.
