Dwellers in Ho Chi Minh City witnessed a much-needed relief from scorching heat as heavy showers began pouring down on many parts of the city at around 4:00 pm on Tuesday.

In District 7, a heavy rain accompanied by strong winds hit a vast area of Tan Phong Ward.

Meanwhile, Thu Duc City under the jurisdiction of Ho Chi Minh City experienced minor flooding following around 30 minutes of rain which caused trash to float along many streets, clogging manholes and sewer entrances.

Also, the downpour resulted in traffic gridlock at the An Phu Intersection area in Thu Duc, despite local traffic police’s efforts to ease the congestion.

Showers along with strong winds affected District 1, the central business district of the southern metropolis.

The southern weather agency said in a statement released at 5:45 pm the same day that District 12, Thu Duc City, and the two outlying districts of Hoc Mon and Cu Chi were enduring thunderstorms.

The agency forecast that localities in southern Vietnam will likely suffer high daytime temperatures on Wednesday, while showers and thunderstorms may come down on many places across the region in the evening.
