The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has proposed the municipal administration extend a pilot tour to transport tourists around District 1 and District 4 on open-top double-decker buses until the end of 2025 and expand the tour to District 5, District 6, and Thu Duc City.

The department said that the pilot expansion would help drive up the development of the city’s night-time economy and tourism.

Anh Viet Hop On Hop Off Vietnam and Vietnamtourism-Hanoi JSC are piloting the double-decker tour in the southern metropolis.

In particular, Anh Viet Hop On Hop Off Vietnam has been operating an open-top double-decker bus route since January 2020.

Buses plying the 12.7 kilometer-long route DL01 are operational from 9:00 am to 11:00 pm daily.

As of the end of the first quarter, the route had served over 191,680 passengers.

Meanwhile, Vietnamtourism-Hanoi JSC is in charge of the DL01 route, which started its operation in August 2022.

The 13.8-kilometer long route opens from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm each day.

Buses on the route had transported 125,200 passengers as of the end of the first quarter.

The two routes were designed to connect with tourist attractions and historical relic sites.

Apart from operating the two routes, the two service suppliers asked for approval to open two more open-top double-decker bus routes to serve more tourists and contribute to spurring the city’s tourism growth.

Anh Viet Hop On Hop Off Vietnam proposed opening a route featuring 30 daily rides, while the other firm desired to offer a transport service with 15 daily rides.
