Vietnamese bank LPBank, which is commonly known as Lien Viet Post Joint Stock Commercial Bank or LienVietPostBank, is completing procedures to change its English name to Fortune Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank.

Its English name’s abbreviation will remain unchanged as LPBank.

Its Vietnamese name is ‘Ngan hang thuong mai co phan Loc Phat Viet Nam’ or ‘Ngan hang Loc Phat Viet Nam’ for short.

Loc Phat is literally translated as fortune, luck, or prosperity.

Earlier, the bank had planned to change its English name to Loc Phat Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank.

Last year, the State Bank of Vietnam gave its nod to LPBank’s proposal to change its abbreviated name to LPBank from LienVietPostBank.

The bank said it had used the abbreviation of ‘LienVietPostBank’ from 2011, but it had many characters and was difficult to pronounce and remember, resulting in a weak media effect.

Banks in Vietnam share a trend of using the shortest possible abbreviated names.
