Local residents have raised concerns over an aging vocational training center which has been left abandoned for over a decade in Da Nang City, central Vietnam and is now being used as a garden by a number of local households.

Located on DT 601 Street in Hoa Bac Commune, Hoa Vang District, the 05-06 vocational training center halted its operations in 2013.

It later relocated within the commune and was rebranded as the Bau Bang Social Facility.

The center’s building, now in a state of disrepair, has been deserted ever since.

According to a resident who declined to provide their name, local households have taken advantage of the vacant center to store fertilizer and grow plants.

During recent meetings with authorities, local residents advocated for measures to repurpose the location, emphasizing the importance of avoiding wastefulness.

Phan Duy Anh, vice-chairman of the People’s Committee of Hoa Vang, shared that relevant agencies inspected the old building last month and suggested a plan to put the facility to use.

The uninhabited center spans an area of 37,667 square meters and comprises seven blocks. The initial value of assets in the center was more than VND10.6 billion (US$414,700).

The city’s Department of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs was sluggish in conducting procedures to hand over the old building to the Hoa Vang administration, resulting in the facility deserted for more than a decade, Anh said.

To cope with wastefulness caused by the abandonment, the Hoa Vang administration sought the municipal People’s Committee’s permission to liquidate the whole building to get cleared land.

The plot of land of the old building should be added to the district’s urban zoning plan, it suggested.

In response, the municipal administration recently allowed the Hoa Vang administration to develop a plan to liquidate assets from the old building, as per prevailing regulations.
