Border guards in Ha Tinh Province, north-central Vietnam busted a transnational gold trafficking ring, detaining four suspects and seizing four kilograms of gold last week.

A guard said on Friday that three of them reside in Hai Duong Province, northern Vietnam and the other is a resident of Dak Lak Province, located in the Central Highlands region.

At 4:00 on Saturday last week, the border guards at Cau Treo International Border Gate in Huong Son District, Ha Tinh Province stopped a pickup truck with four men on board heading from Laos to Vietnam for examination.

The forces discovered four kilograms of gold inside the vehicle without legal papers of origin.

The suspects admitted having bought the amount of gold worth VND7.2 billion (US$282,560) from the Laotian capital city of Vientiane to sell it in Vietnam, seeking to earn profits due to the far difference between the global price and the domestic rate in Vietnam.
