Only eight out of 75 park projects in Ho Chi Minh City in 2020-25 have been allocated funding, according to a report by the municipal administration.
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has released a report on the implementation of a park and public green space development program for the 2020-25 period.
According to the report, the city exceeded the targets of park and public green space development as well as tree planting and restoration.
In particular, the city developed 237 hectares of parks, 54 hectares of public green spaces, and planted and restored 42,534 trees from early 2021 to the end of 2024, surpassing the targets by 58, 440 and 40 percent, respectively.
However, the allocation of public investment for park projects is still inefficient.
The city cannot call for investment in park and green space development projects as according to regulations, such projects are not eligible for public-private partnership investment.
In addition, there are no units in charge of studying certain tree species in urban conditions and building a green space database although the government has called on universities and institutes to join.
The management and exploitation of park spaces also shows shortcomings due to the shortage of regulations on managing, using, and exploiting public assets, specifically the provision of vehicle keeping, catering services and vending machines, and other necessary services.
