The People’s Committee of Phu Quoc City in Kien Giang Province, located in southern Vietnam, is speeding up work on the Phu Quoc International Passenger Port project to welcome cruise ships.
The Phu Quoc administration has announced that a luxury cruise ship with nearly 2,000 international tourists on board is set to dock at the port on Friday next week.
Local authorities are working swiftly to finalize all procedures to meet international standards in preparation for the arrival of the cruise ship.
“We are collaborating with relevant units to ensure the best possible reception for the international cruise ship, focusing on hospitality, environmental protection, transportation arrangements, and security,” said Tran Minh Khoa, chairman of the Phu Quoc People's Committee.
Some components of the Phu Quoc International Passenger Port have yet to be completed, including dredging waterway passages, setting up water supply systems, and installing fire prevention systems.
Apart from finishing these tasks, the city will also tidy up the surroundings to make a good first impression on visitors, according to the official.
Situated in Duong Dong Ward, the Phu Quoc International Passenger Port spans some 180 hectares and carries a price tag of over VND1.64 trillion (US$65 million).
The project, scheduled to be implemented during the 2015-25 period, features a 240-meter-long wharf, a 1,004-meter-long bridge that connects the wharf to the beach, a 850-meter-long breakwater, and a passenger terminal capable of handling 225,000 GT cruise ships.
Once fully operational, the port will allow five-star cruise ships carrying up to 4,000 international visitors to easily dock, offering tourists the opportunity to explore Phu Quoc.
The port is expected to not only improve the island’s infrastructure, but also serve as a vital catalyst for attracting investment and international tourists, positioning Phu Quoc as a luxury tourism and service hub.
