Authorities in Phan Thiet City, Binh Thuan Province, south-central Vietnam have deployed 200 workers and 20 vehicles to cope with the aftermath of the red sand flooding properties and vehicles in the area.
In the early morning hours on Tuesday, a heavy downpour resulted in red sand pouring into local homes and other properties in Ham Tien Ward and Mui Ne Ward, according to a quick report of the city’s administration.
The sand was said to have come from the Sentosa Mui Ne villa project on a hill to Huynh Thuc Khang Street in Mui Ne, stretching some 350 meters and measuring up to 1.5 meters in thickness.
The incident blocked vehicular traffic movement in the area.
Another flood of sand, some 150 meters long and 1.5 meters high, hit a Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street section in Ham Tien and caused traffic disruption.
The deluge of red sand submerged two passenger buses and four motorcycles, caused the collapse of a wall, and destroyed other facilities of two restaurants and one house in Mui Ne.
In Ham Tien, five homes and five motorcycles fell victim to the flood of red sand.
Fortunately, no injuries or deaths were reported.
Le Van Chon, vice-chairman of the Phan Thiet administration, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that traffic movement on Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street returned to normal after authorities managed to remove a huge amount of sand from the route by Tuesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, clean-up efforts were underway in red sand-hit areas in Mui Ne, he said.
The locales in the city were asked to stay updated on the latest weather forecast news to promptly inform local inhabitants of possible weather-related incidents and precautionary measures.
