Many residents have rushed to the ongoing 2024 Cashless Day Festival in downtown Ho Chi Minh City to exchange recyclable garbage, such as plastic bottles and cans, for small gifts.

The program is being offered through Sunday at the Green Vietnam pavilion of the Cashless Day Festival on Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street in District 1.

According to the organizer, more than 300 pots of succulent had been given to visitors to the pavilion as of Saturday afternoon.

People can receive a pot of succulent, a pen, a cup made from used coffee grounds with two used plastic bottles, cans and/or boxes.

The pavilion features a bamboo-made fish model, composed of 99 percent bamboo materials, aimed at educating visitors on waste classification and symbolizing the plight of millions of fish navigating through plastic pollution in the oceans.

Nguyen Thi Cam Lai, a student of the Ho Chi Minh University of Natural Resources and Environment, brought six empty plastic bottles to the Green Vietnam pavilion and was given beautiful pots of succulent.

Hoang Anh and Pham Van Minh, along with other booth visitors, expressed their enthusiasm for the program, emphasizing its meaningful impact.

Visitors have the opportunity to contribute a tree to Biti's tree planting campaign by exchanging 10 AAA batteries.

Student Le Thi Linh Chi from Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City, acknowledged her awareness of the harmful effects of used batteries, appreciating the program's purpose.

She expressed hope for more campaigns like Green Vietnam in the future.

Green Vietnam is held by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper in association with the Department of Climate Change and the Vietnam Packaging Recycling Organization under the direction of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

The program aims to improve the community’s and enterprises’ awareness of the importance of environmental protection and sustainable development, encourage individuals, organizations, and enterprises to apply eco-friendly production and business solutions, and honor those with sustainable development models and products.
