The Ho Chi Minh City Management Center of Public Transport is investigating an incident where an open-top tourist double-decker ran the red light at an intersection in District 1, which was captured by a dashboard camera from a vehicle behind it and has sparked outrage among road users.
On Saturday, the dashcam footage capturing the incident was shared widely on social media in Ho Chi Minh City.
The video, documented at 1:29 pm on Friday, depicted the double-decker traveling on Tran Hung Dao Street and subsequently turning right onto Ham Nghi Street in Ben Thanh Ward, District 1.
It showed the bus then disregarding the red light at the crowded Tran Hung Dao-Ham Nghi intersection.
A representative from the center confirmed that they had reviewed the camera footage and were addressing the violation.
The center plans to convene a meeting next week with all double-decker companies and cooperatives to reinforce supervision and ensure compliance with traffic laws, aiming to maintain order and safety on the roads.
It will take strict measures, including possible dismissal, for repeated intentional violations.
Currently, Ho Chi Minh City operates three open-top tourist bus routes that explore downtown District 1, as well as the Cho Lon area in Districts 5 and 6.
