Many commuters have to wait for buses at darkened bus stops along the streets in Thu Duc City, a district-level administration unit under Ho Chi Minh City, as the lights installed at these locations have been stolen.
As many as 22 bus stops on Vo Nguyen Giap Boulevard, Hanoi Highway, and National Highway 1 in Thu Duc have equipment stolen, according to the Ho Chi Minh City Management Center of Public Transport.
They currently have neither lights nor electronic boards, causing difficulties to those waiting at the facilities.
The theft of electric devices has been reported at bus stops in other districts, not only Thu Duc.
The issue has hit the operation of public transport activities and caused a loss of state assets, the official noted.
Many bus stops have also shown signs of deterioration, such as broken electrical cabinets.
Nguyen Thi Kim Yen, a resident in Binh Thanh District, said she often catches buses to school and feels worried when waiting at bus stops without lights.

Pham Vuong Bao, deputy director of the Ho Chi Minh City Management Center of Public Transport, said many bus stops have darkened as equipment, specifically lights, had been stolen.
The center has suggested Thu Duc police investigate the case and would install lights at such bus stops at the earliest possible time.

It will work out measures to reinforce equipment and install surveillance cameras at bus stops, Bao added.
