-- South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol affirmed his country’s commitment to assist Vietnam in training the workforce for semiconductor and hi-tech industries, as well as developing the cultural industry, during his talks with Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Seoul on Tuesday.

-- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his South Korean counterpart Han Duck Soo on Tuesday witnessed the signing of nine cooperation deals between both nations’ ministries and agencies in various fields such as economy, trade, investment, education, and startup ecosystems, as part of the top Vietnamese official’s trip to South Korea from Sunday to Wednesday.

-- Vietnam’s budget carrier Vietjet has launched a new direct air service linking Ho Chi Minh City with Xi’an, the provincial capital city of Shaanxi Province in China, with four round-trip flights per week, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

-- A hi-tech livestock farm raising more than 20,000 pigs in Thanh Hoa Province, north-central Vietnam was forced to suspend operations from July 30 after it was found to have polluted the environment, Le Duc Giang, vice-chairman of the provincial administration, said on Tuesday afternoon.

-- Authorities in the northern mountainous provinces of Vietnam were asked to stay prepared for evacuation operations as extreme rainfall, accompanied by potential flooding, landslides, and flash floods, is expected to lash the region from Tuesday night to Thursday morning, according to an official dispatch signed by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang on Tuesday.

-- The administration of Bac Kan Province in northern Vietnam on Tuesday declared a local state of emergency on account of severe landslides which battered the headquarters of a police agency in Cho Don District, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

-- Police of Tien Giang Province in southern Vietnam confirmed on Tuesday that they had seized two cars for transporting more than 16,000 packs of suspected smuggled cigarettes in two separate cases earlier on the same day.

World News

-- At least 116 people, many of them women and children, were killed in a stampede at a Hindu religious gathering in northern India on Tuesday, authorities said, in one of the country's worst such tragedies in years, Reuters reported.

-- Hurricane Beryl barreled toward Jamaica as a powerful Category 4 storm on Tuesday after battering smaller islands in the eastern Caribbean, and scientists cited human-caused climate change as the likely culprit for the storm's rapid strengthening, according to Reuters.
