The administration of Da Lat, a resort city in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, has pledged to popularize gong culture among international friends through a music festival to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Dang Quang Tu, chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, made this commitment at the 2024 Annual Conference of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network held in Braga, Portugal from July 1 to 3.

Tu said that after working with Ernesto Ottone R., UNESCO assistant director-general for culture, the municipal administration put forward a series of international missions associated with music at the conference, while being committed to accomplishing them in the next three years.

Particularly, Da Lat City will organize a Southeast Asia gong festival to preserve and honor gong culture, as well as promote the value of the cultural heritage of Vietnam’s Central Highlands region.

According to the official, the international event will be held annually, featuring the participation of gong artists from many cities in Southeast Asia.

Besides, the city also intends to roll out a Lang Biang international music fest which will be among the key cultural programs in Da Lat, alongside the famed flower festival.

The biennial Lang Biang music festival will become the largest of its kind in the upland city, bringing together local and international entertainment and art service suppliers.

Moreover, the ‘Sound of Forests’ program will be organized annually in the city to raise awareness of sustainability through music.

The program will invite singers and artists from Asia-Pacific and Africa.
