-- Construction began on the Quang Tri airport project which carries a price tag of VND5.8 trillion (US$228.2 million) in the namesake north-central province on Saturday.

-- A sawdust tank exploded in a wood processing company in Binh Duong Province, a neighbor of Ho Chi Minh City, on Saturday, injuring nine workers.

-- Police in Nghe An Province, north-central Vietnam on Friday cracked down on a ring transporting drugs to Vietnam from abroad, arresting two suspects and confiscating 27 bricks of heroin, five kilograms of meth, 6,000 synthetic drug tablets, and many other exhibits.

-- Garbage has piled up as high as mountains at two landfills in Go Quao and Giong Rieng Districts in Kien Giang Province, southern Vietnam, while a waste treatment plant which has been built since 2017 remains incomplete.

-- Dak Nong Province in Vietnam’s Central Highlands is experiencing a significant increase in dengue hospitalizations. Last month alone saw 789 cases, bringing the total number of dengue hospitalizations in the province to nearly 1,350 since the beginning of the year, according to the provincial Department of Health.

-- Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Saturday ordered efforts to achieve an economic growth rate of 6.5 - 7 percent in the third quarter of this year.

-- Vietnam attracted nearly $15.2 billion in foreign direct investment in the first half of this year, a year-on-year increase of 13.1 percent, the Vietnam News Agency reported, citing the General Statistics Office.

-- Dr. Nguyen Nhat Nguyen, who is also known as Arthur Nguyen, a Vietnamese scientist, has been awarded the national professor title in management science by the France state at the age of 34.

-- “An oil truck collided with a minibus on Saturday in western Ukraine, killing 14 people, including a six-year-old child, and leaving a single survivor,” Reuters quoted Emergency Services as saying.
