-- In the first half of 2024, more than 78,000 workers departed Vietnam for overseas employment, making up nearly 63 percent of the year’s target, according to the Department of Overseas Labor of Vietnam.

-- According to the latest report from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City, the quality of surface water collected at 22 monitoring stations in the Saigon and Dong Nai river basins ranges from average to good.

-- The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has predicted that the northern and central regions will endure an extended heatwave, with temperatures expected to reach up to 38 degrees Celsius, lasting until July 14.

-- A hot-air balloon carrying nine people made an emergency landing in an open field near Provincial Road 412 in Ba Vi District, Hanoi on Saturday due to a technical issue, local authorities said on Sunday. The incident did not result in any casualties.

-- Many tourists visiting Con Dao Island, off the coast of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province in southern Vietnam, have happily complied with local authorities’ call not to burn votive paper at historical and spiritual relics since the beginning of this month.

-- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Sunday attended the inauguration of a 23.83km road in the northern province of Hung Yen, which connects the Hanoi-Hai Phong and Cau Gie-Ninh Binh Expressways.

-- Vietnam outplayed World No. 13 Belgium in a play-off game on Sunday, winning a bronze medal at the 2024 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Challenger Cup in Manila, the Philippines.

-- Dong A Thanh Hoa FC clinched the championship by defeating their higher-rated opponents, Hanoi FC, 9-8 on penalties after a goalless draw in regulation time in the 2023-2024 Vietnamese National Football Cup final at home on Sunday evening.

Lifestyle

-- The Illumination Animation sequel ‘Despicable Me 4’ earned VND48.1 billion (US$1.9 million) in revenue after its first three days of wide release in Vietnam, according to The Box Office Vietnam. It dominated the weekend with 14,435 screenings, which is 10 times more than the films ranked second and third at the box offices.
