-- The Investigation Police Department for Corruption, Smuggling, and Economic Crimes under the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security on Monday detained former Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Linh Ngoc and four others for allegedly violating regulations on the management and use of state assets, causing losses and wastefulness.
-- A project to expand and upgrade a 5.5-kilometer Pham Van Bach Street section in Ho Chi Minh City remains incomplete after its construction commenced in 2005.
-- Storm Prapiroon, the second to affect Vietnam this year, was forecast to make landfall in northeastern Vietnam this morning before weakening into a tropical depression. The storm was recorded in the waters of Quang Ninh Province and Hai Phong City in the north at 4:00 am on Tuesday, packing winds of 62-88 kilometers per hour, according to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting.
-- The Department of Tourism in Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam said on Monday that it had launched a contest to design souvenirs for tourists. The contest will last until September 30.
-- The completion of the Dai Ngai bridge project linking Soc Trang Province with neighboring Tra Vinh Province in southern Vietnam has been pushed back to 2027 instead of the previously planned 2026, according to a decision approved by the minister of transport. The project carries a price tag of nearly VND8 trillion (US$313.7 million)
-- Sanitation workers in Da Nang City, central Vietnam on Monday collected several metric tons of dead fish which blanketed the surface of a lake in the city and gave off a foul odor.

-- Thailand spent $97 million importing Vietnam’s vegetables and fruits in the first half of this year, double the amount in the same period last year, Dang Phuc Nguyen, general secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetables Association, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Monday.
