Police in Vietnam have detained three young Chinese suspects who allegedly killed a taxi driver and then stole his cab on Saturday.

Police officers in Ba Don Town, Quang Binh Province on Monday said they had handed over Huang Jie Cheng, 18, Gan Ying, 17, and Luo Shi Jun, 16, to their counterparts in Quang Ngai Province for an investigation into their charges of murder and robbery.

According to the case file, traffic police in Quang Binh signaled a suspicious Mai Linh cab to stop for examination at 8:00 am on Sunday on National Highway 1 in Ba Don Town.

The driver ignored the request and sped away, prompting police to chase the vehicle and call for backup.

In Quang Tho Ward, the cab collided with a motorbike ridden by a local woman but continued driving.

It then hit another motorcycle in Quang Long Ward and a car in Ba Don Ward before police finally stopped it, according to Thanh Nien (Young People) newspaper.

The accidents caused by the cab injured six people.

Police escorted the three Chinese nationals in the car to the Ba Don police station for investigation.

During the interrogation of the foreigners, investigators noted additional suspicious behavior beyond their traffic violations and involvement in accidents.

After hours of questioning by experienced investigators, the suspects eventually confessed to committing murder and robbery on July 27.

Accordingly, on the early morning of that day, the Chinese group rented a Mai Linh car driven by Nguyen Van Hai, a 47-year-old man from northern Quang Ninh Province, to take them from Quang Ninh to the central region.

At around 7:00 pm on the same day, when the cab arrived in Quang Ngai, the group strangled Hai to death and threw his body in the province’s Mo Duc District on National Highway 1, the People's Public Security Television under the Ministry of Public Security reported.

The foreigners then stole the cab and drove it back toward the northern region until they were arrested in Quang Binh.

The investigation into the motive of the three Chinese suspects in the murder and robbery case is underway.
