The Mobile Police Command under the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security has launched a training course on handling detection dogs for 32 police officers from the Cambodian Ministry of Home Affairs.
The opening ceremony for the six-month training course was held at a training center for detection dogs in Hanoi’s Soc Son District on Wednesday.
Speaking at the event, Major General Nguyen Thanh Banh, deputy commander of the Mobile Police Command, said that the course was designed to meet specific requests from Cambodian law enforcement officials.
Thirty-two Cambodian police officers are participating in the training course to gain basic knowledge in managing, raising, and training detection dogs to assist in identifying drugs and explosives.
At the ceremony, Banh emphasized that the trainees would be able to apply their new skills to enhance their effectiveness in combating crime.
Since 1999, the ministry has conducted eight detection dog training courses, training a total of 84 Cambodian law enforcement officers, with the latest course held in 2023.
The current trainees, who have no prior experience working with police canines, are expected to significantly improve their crime-fighting capabilities in Cambodia.
