– Hanoi chairman Tran Sy Thanh on Tuesday chaired a meeting on environmental improvement, ordering relevant units to quickly collect wastewater discharged into the To Lich River and dredge the river by the end of August this year.

– A woman died after falling from a high floor of a luxury apartment building in Nha Trang City, south-central Khanh Hoa Province on Wednesday evening.

– Authorities in Hoai Duc District, Hanoi said on Wednesday that they were probing a case involving a large volume of confectionery dumped at a landfill site in La Phu Industrial Park in La Phu Commune. Several images of heaps of sweets at the landfill surfaced on local social media on Tuesday.

– An officer said on Wednesday that police in District 11, Ho Chi Minh City had found a foreigner who stole VND20 million (US$796) from a 23-year-old employee at a badminton equipment shop on Lac Long Quan Street last week.

– The People’s Committee of Quang Nam Province in central Vietnam announced on Wednesday that the province would open a 98-kilometer bus route, designed to pass by Hoi An Ancient Town and the temple complex of My Son Sanctuary, to promote tourism. 

– Thousands of locals and tourists joined the Het Temple Festival in Thai Binh Province, northern Vietnam on Wednesday. The event kicked off on Monday and is set to last until Thursday, featuring a series of cultural activities and folk games.

– The Phu Thuong Sticky Rice Festival opened in Tay Ho District, Hanoi on Wednesday, showcasing a wide array of meticulously decorated trays of sticky rice. Phu Thuong Village’s sticky rice cooking craft was recognized as national intangible cultural heritage in 2024.

World News

– U.S. dairy cattle tested positive for a strain of bird flu that previously had not been seen in cows, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said on Wednesday, ramping up concerns about the persistent spread of the virus, Reuters reported.

– The U.S. Postal Service said on Wednesday it would again accept parcels from China and Hong Kong, reversing a 12-hour suspension after President Donald Trump scrapped an exemption used by retailers including Temu, Shein, and Amazon to ship low-value packages duty-free to the United States, according to Reuters.
