-- Vietnamese leaders, including Party General Secretary and State President To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, on Monday sent congratulatory messages to their Ukrainian counterparts on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of Ukraine's Independence Day (August 24, 1991 - August 24, 2024).

-- Party General Secretary and State President To Lam on Monday presented decisions on the appointment of Nguyen Hoa Binh, Ho Duc Phoc, Bui Thanh Son as new Deputy Prime Ministers, Do Duc Duy as Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, and Nguyen Hai Ninh as Minister of Justice for the 2021-26 tenure. 

-- Vietnam’s lawmaking National Assembly (NA) will elect a new State President at its sitting in October, NA General Secretary and NA Office Chairman Bui Van Cuong said on Monday.

-- Fulbright University Vietnam is a result of educational cooperation between Vietnam and the U.S., especially in high-quality manpower training, and Vietnam hopes the university will continue to make practical contributions to the development of Vietnam-U.S. friendship and cooperation, spokesperson for the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang responded to a query about Fulbright University Vietnam’s activities on Monday.

-- The Department of Transport in Ho Chi Minh City has issued an announcement saying that it would restrict vehicles from entering some streets leading to Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Tan Binh District and Phu Nhuan District, including Nguyen Van Troi, Phan Dinh Giot, Truong Son, Hong Ha, Bach Dang, Nguyen Kiem, and Dang Van Sam, from 6:00 am to 11:00 am on Wednesday this week to serve a city defense drill.

-- A trans-Vietnam train became entangled in telecom cables while passing through Phu Nhuan District, Ho Chi Minh City on Monday, causing it to stop for 32 minutes.

-- South Korea’s Ministry of the Interior and Safety on Monday announced that emergency alerts sent through the 'Emergency Ready' app will now be available in five different languages, including Vietnamese.

-- The Department of Transport in Long An Province, southern Vietnam said on Monday that it was making preparations to kick off a project to upgrade the nine-kilometer Road 830C connecting its Ben Luc District to Ho Chi Minh City at an estimated cost of over VND970 billion (US$38.9 million).

-- Vietnam's gross domestic product is expected to expand 6.1 percent this year and 6.5 percent in both 2025 and 2026, the World Bank said at a press conference in Hanoi on Monday.

-- Tianhong Vietnamese Market Equity Launched QDII Fund, a Chinese investment fund, currently holds more than 91 million shares, or a 1.147-percent stake, at Vietnamese lender VPBank.
