Blown roofs, collapsed trees, and scattered furniture are now seen in Cat Ba Town in Cat Hai District, Hai Phong City, northern Vietnam, in the wake of typhoon Yagi.
The town is among the worst hit by the typhoon and is slowly putting back the pieces.
Residents have experienced electricity, water, and telecom network cuts for several days.
Ferry service to the island resumed on Monday.
Prior to the arrival of typhoon Yagi, the Hai Phong administration banned residents from operating in the sea to ensure safety.
Minh, a 51-year-old resident in Cat Ba, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, “When we went outside after the typhoon, we saw the streets look no different from being bombed. It was terrible.
"I have never experienced such a strong storm in my life.”
Minh and fellow residents have begun tidying their streets and neighborhoods.

Cat Ba Town is a tourist and fishing logistics service hub in Cat Hai District and Hai Phong City.
Typhoon Yagi's destruction has also damaged tourism incentives.
The town accommodates over 12,740 people and welcomes a high number of domestic and foreign tourists per year.
