Chairman of Vietnam's lawmaking National Assembly (NA) Tran Thanh Man had a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Tuesday as part of his official visit to Russia from September 8 to 10.
This was the second time the two leaders had directly met each other since the top Vietnamese legislator assumed office in May, following a meeting in Hanoi in June when President Putin paid a state visit to Vietnam.
Their meeting in Moscow took place in a friendly and straightforward atmosphere.
Chairman Man conveyed the greetings from Vietnamese Party General Secretary and State President To Lam and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to President Putin.
He also briefed Putin on the outcomes of his official visit to Russia and cooperation plans between the two countries' parliaments in the coming time.

President Putin thanked Party General Secretary and State President Lam and Prime Minister Chinh for their greetings and extended his invitation to the two Vietnamese leaders to visit Russia at appropriate times.
He spoke highly of the significance and outcomes of Chairman Man's visit and the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese legislature.
The Russian leader suggested the two countries’ legislative bodies continue to strengthen their cooperation, contributing to promoting the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership in a practical and effective manner.
He pledged his support for the legislatures of both countries in implementing their signed agreements.

During meetings with leaders of major Russian political parties on the same day, Chairman Man expressed his pleasure at returning to Russia and his impression of Moscow’s big and positive changes.
The Vietnamese leader expressed gratitude for the invaluable and sincere support from the Soviet Union, now the Russian Federation, during Vietnam's struggle for national independence and reunification in the past and in its current development efforts.
Gennady Zyuganov, leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, said that Vietnam, with its development achievements, is a model for other countries.
He promised to keep contributing to maintaining the traditional friendship with Vietnam and the close cooperation with the Communist Party of Vietnam as well as the Vietnamese people.

At another meeting, Chairman Man and Chairman of the Socialist Political Party 'A Just Russia - Patriots - For the Truth' Sergey Mironov agreed that the two sides should strive further to reach the bilateral trade target of US$10 billion by 2030.
The Vietnamese NA supports the enhancement of the two countries’ comprehensive cooperation and has been collaborating with the government to remove obstacles and seriously consider Russia’s proposals.
Boosting localities’ cooperation
At a meeting with Governor of the Rostov region Vasily Golubev, Chairman Man hailed Rostov’s cooperation with Vietnam, reflected through its agreement with Vietnam’s Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province during Man’s visit.
He hoped the two sides would realize their cooperation plan soon, affirming that the Vietnamese NA advocated the collaboration between Rostov and Ba Ria - Vung Tau as well as other Vietnamese localities.

Governor Golubev said that he would encourage local businesses to foster cooperation with Vietnamese localities, such as Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Can Tho City.
On the same day, Chairman Man also met with representatives of the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association and the association of Russian veterans who used to fight for Vietnam in wartime.
He expressed his belief that members of the two associations would keep supporting and contributing positively and effectively to the stronger development of the Vietnam - Russia relations in the coming periods.
Chairman Man’s visit to Russia was his first overseas trip as the leader of the National Assembly.
