A powerful tropical storm, known internationally as Yagi, entered the northern waters off the East Vietnam Sea, becoming the third storm to impact Vietnam this year, according to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting.
The storm is forecast to grow stronger, with gusts at level 16.
Particularly, the storm was spotted in the waters northeast of the northern part of the East Vietnam Sea at 7:00 am on Tuesday, with winds of up to 74 kilometers per hour, equivalent to level eight, and gusts reaching level 11.
During the next 24 hours, the storm is moving west-northwest at approximately 10 kilometers per hour and is likely to intensify.
At 7:00 am on Wednesday, the eye of the storm will be some 740 kilometers away from China’s Hainan Island, with winds at level 10 and gusts at level 12.
In the next 48 hours, it will change its direction to move westward at about 10 kilometers per hour.
The storm will be spotted some 400 kilometers from Hainan at 7:00 am on September 9, with winds at level 12 and gusts hitting level 14.
It might bring winds at level 13 and gusts reaching level 16 to the waters off Hainan at 7:00 am on September 6.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on Monday sent a telegram to coastal provinces and relevant agencies, ordering them to keep a close watch on the powerful storm and notify its direction to ships operating in the waters to avoid the storm, as well as prepare for rescue efforts if necessary, local media reported.
