Indonesia’s coast guard ship KN Pulau Dana 323 docked at PTSC Port in Vung Tau City of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province on Tuesday, beginning a four-day courtesy visit to the southern Vietnamese province.

The ship, with 54 crew members on board led by Lt. Col. Umar Dhani, was warmly welcomed by Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Vietnam Coast Guard Region 3 Nguyen Minh Khanh, representatives from the Indonesian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, and other officials.

This port call marks the first visit by an Indonesian coast guard ship to Vietnam since the two nations’ coast guard forces signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in 2021, Khanh said.

The visit is meant to strengthen cooperation between the two countries’ armies in general and coast guard forces in particular, thereby promoting the traditional friendship and strategic partnership between Vietnam and Indonesia.

It is also one of the practical activities toward the 70th anniversary of Vietnam-Indonesia diplomatic relations in 2025, offering a good opportunity for coast guard officers and soldiers from both sides to exchange experience, enhance professional knowledge, and improve skills to deal with incidents, according to the Vietnam Coast Guard.

During their stay in Vung Tau, the ship's leaders will pay courtesy visits to the People's Committee of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province and the Region 3 Command.

The coast guard forces of Vietnam and Indonesia will carry out joint training exercises in search and rescue, firefighting at sea, and responding to marine environmental pollution incidents.

The guests will also participate in sports, cultural, artistic, and culinary exchanges with local officers and soldiers, as well as pay visits to historical sites and scenic spots in Vung Tau.

Vietnam and Indonesia established diplomatic relations on December 30, 1955 and entered a strategic partnership in June 2013.
