Vietnam’s air carriers increased domestic flights departing from or for Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang City on Monday to ease air passenger traffic in the wake of storm Trami.
Trami, the sixth storm to strike the East Vietnam Sea this year, hit Thua Thien-Hue Province, Da Nang City, and Quang Nam Province in the central region around noon on Sunday with winds reaching up to 74kph before weakening, according to the national weather center.
National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines announced Monday morning that it would add six more flights on Monday to transport passengers affected by the storm.
According to the airline’s statistics, the storm canceled nearly 90 domestic and international flights.
The airline operated an additional six flights departing from or for Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang on Sunday afternoon and evening after the storm swept through the central region.
To ease passenger traffic jams at local airports caused by Sunday’s delays and cancelations, low-cost airlines Vietjet and Bamboo Airways increased the number of flights on Monday.
These local airlines urged passengers intending to fly from or to four airports Da Nang, Phu Bai, Dong Hoi, and Chu Lai to stay informed about flight schedules and weather forecasts.
The four airports shut down on Sunday in response to the impact from the storm.
Though the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam allowed them to reopen on Sunday afternoon, these airports remain overwhelmed with passengers, leading to the jump in flights.
Da Nang International Airport in the namesake city and Phu Bai International Airport in Thua Thien-Hue Province were allowed to reopen at 4:00 pm.
Chu Lai Airport in Quang Nam Province restarted its operation at 1:00 pm, while Dong Hoi Airport in Quang Binh Province resumed its services at 5:00 pm.
